Partied tonight with Oprah and Paul Allen. OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but we were at the same party. A big media birthday for the company I work for. India.Arie performed (excellent; a duet with Roberta Flack, and a great cover of Terrence Trent D’Arby’s “Sign Your Name”). There was food. Drink. Merriment.

I returned home to my fledgling home recording studio. I now have a microphone, pro headphones, an audio in/out interface, and recording/arranging/mixing software. I was frustrated last night trying to get it set up, because I couldn’t get the click track (think metronome) to output to my headphones.

I’m hoping that when I get the midi component set up (I bought a keyboard on eBay that’s on it’s way) I can resolve the click track issue, but for now, I can ignore it and use my unaided (and unskilled!) rhythm.

So here’s the first output from the studio. A recording of the latest song I wrote, “Hang on, Blue Skies.” Two guitar tracks, two vocal tracks. It’s nowhere near the level of quality in the songs that Elbert produced with me (no Auto-Tuning on the vocals — eek!), but it’s a start. And it’s a blast!

There’s more to say, always more to say.

I saw my mom’s father the other night. He’s not doing too well. Old. It’s sad to see. I don’t know him too well. He signed a copy of his book for me.

I’m still off the volleyball courts, but my foot’s feeling a ton better, and I’ll be ready to play in the new league in a couple of weeks. I’ve got a good feeling about the team for this season.

Now Blogger’s not publishing. Temporarily unavailable. I feel a tech project coming on soon…
